The CoTinker Learning Activities

CoTinker is a web-based platform for collaborative computational thinking activities. Students access shared learning activities through unique URLs, with some activities connecting phones and computers via QR codes. The platform synchronizes all group members - when one student advances, everyone moves to the next step together, combining step-by-step guidance with interactive elements like code editors and simulations.

What age group are the CoTinker activities designed for?

CoTinker activities are designed primarily for upper secondary students (ages 15–19), but many activities can be adapted for younger or older learners with minor modifications.

Do students need any prior programming experience?

No prior programming experience is required. The activities are designed to be accessible to complete beginners, with step-by-step guidance built into the platform.

What devices and browsers are supported?

CoTinker works in any modern web browser on desktop, tablet, and mobile. Some activities use QR codes to connect phones and computers — a mix of devices is ideal for those activities.

How many students can participate in a session?

Activities are designed for small groups of 2–4 students working collaboratively. A typical classroom can run multiple simultaneous sessions.

Do teachers need to create accounts for their students?

Students join activities through a unique URL or QR code — no account creation needed. Teachers can start a learning activity through a unique teacher page url, which requeries no login.

Is CoTinker free to use?

CoTinker is a research platform developed at Aarhus University and is completely freee to use in your teaching. I you want to collaborate or have questions, please see the About page for contact info.

Which language are the activities in?

All of the activities are currently only in danish. If you are interested in using a CoTinker activity in a english speaking classroom, please contact the research time. You can find contact info in the About page.
